Carbon to Unveil New 3D Printing Solutions for Dental Labs at IDS 2025

by Audrey

At IDS 2025, Carbon, a leading U.S. developer of CLIP 3D printing technology, will showcase its latest innovations designed to streamline dental lab operations. The company will highlight advancements in automation, material technology, and workflow optimization. Key highlights include new updates to Carbon’s Automatic Operation (AO) Suite and the launch of Lucentra, a solution tailored for clear aligner production. These developments aim to boost productivity and enable scalable production within the dental industry.

“We’ve seen these solutions improve operations across North America, and we’re excited to bring them to Europe at IDS 2025. Our goal is to help dental labs achieve new levels of efficiency and productivity,” said Terri Capriolo, Senior Vice President of Oral Health at Carbon.

The centerpiece of Carbon’s presentation will be the AO Suite, which includes the AO Backpack, the Automatic Print Preparation (APP), the newly developed Parts Retrieval Basket, and AO Polishing Cassettes for M-Series printers.

Introduced in 2024, the AO Backpack offers enhanced automation for post-print operations. It features an automatic separation blade to easily remove parts from the build plate, a parts basket capable of holding up to 230 parts, and a resin reclamation system that supports both cost savings and sustainability. Since its release, the AO Backpack has processed over 18,000 prints, helping to optimize workflows in dental labs.

The Automatic Print Preparation (APP) further improves efficiency by automating critical pre-print tasks, such as part orientation, support placement, and labeling. The APP can function independently or work alongside the AO Backpack, ensuring a continuous print queue and reducing the need for manual intervention.

The Parts Retrieval Basket offers a simple solution for retrieving completed prints without interrupting ongoing operations.

This feature is particularly useful for labs using the AO Backpack during staffed shifts, enabling seamless production and minimizing downtime.

In addition, Carbon will present the AO Polishing Cassette, recently introduced to the European market. Compatible with M3 and M3 Max printers, this cassette uses light-scattering technology to polish parts during the printing process, resulting in smoother, clearer prints. This feature reduces manual finishing and preserves intricate design details. The cassette has been validated for use with materials such as Dentsply’s Lucitone Digital Print™ and Keystone Keysplint Soft™ Clear and is compatible with M2, M3, and M3 Max printer platforms.
