JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Dentistry held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new clinical building.
The $40 million project, funded by a legislative appropriation, aims to provide all predoctoral students with the opportunity to deliver comprehensive care in a state-of-the-art clinical setting. This expansion will improve both the patient experience and the learning environment for students.
Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, stated, “In the future, we will be able to train more dentists, dental hygienists, and other dental health professionals. This will increase patient access in Mississippi and help advance research in the field. Our role as the state’s only academic medical center is crucial, including in the area of oral health.”
The new building will be split across two floors. The first floor will include areas for University Dentists and Advanced General Dentistry. The second floor will feature the Comprehensive General Dentistry clinic, which is designed to improve patient care while also providing hands-on training for students.
