COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) — Pikes Peak State College is providing affordable dental care to the community this spring, thanks to its dental assisting program students.
The program aims to give students valuable hands-on experience while addressing the ongoing need for dental assistants across Colorado.
The services are being offered at the newly opened Delta Dental Oral Health Career Center, with the clinic available to individuals ages 8 and older. The treatments, which include exams, X-rays, fluoride treatments, and more, are performed under the supervision of licensed dentists.
Colorado currently ranks 48th in the nation for dental training programs, and the college hopes to help fill the gap in local healthcare by offering these services.
In addition to benefiting the community, the program is an important learning opportunity for students like Hailey Berrier, a senior in the program. “We actually get to do some of the work ourselves,” Berrier said. “Then you can feel confident about it because you’ve already done it here, so it’s not as scary when you’re at your actual job.”
Appointments are available on Monday and Wednesday evenings through May 7.
