SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is offering free preventative dental treatments at its Dental Hygiene Clinic for both children and adults during February and March 2025. This initiative aims to promote oral health and provide essential services to the community.
Typically, the clinic charges a nominal fee of $35 for services such as teeth cleanings, examinations, and bitewing X-rays.
However, these fees will be waived during the promotional period, according to Meg Loadholt, the coordinator of the Dental Hygiene program. Additional treatments, including sealants and whitening trays, will be available at minimal costs.
Christopher Scott, dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation at STCC, expressed enthusiasm about the program.
He noted that it not only benefits students by providing hands-on training but also helps individuals who lack access to dental care receive necessary hygiene treatments.
The clinic operates under the supervision of licensed dentists and hygienists, allowing students in the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant programs to gain practical experience. Graduates often find employment in dental offices across Massachusetts.
Loadholt highlighted that the clinic is particularly beneficial for patients who have been denied insurance coverage for deep cleaning procedures, which can be expensive elsewhere.
Located in Room 238 of the Health Science Building on the STCC campus at One Armory Square, Springfield, the clinic is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic remains closed on Wednesdays.
