A former Barclays bank in Heslington Village, York, is set to undergo a transformation into a large dental practice, following the approval of plans by the City of York Council.
The vacant building, which closed in 2020, will be converted into the Heslington Dental Practice. The redevelopment will include five dental surgeries, two consultation rooms, and office space, according to a council report.
While Heslington Parish Council raised concerns about potential traffic congestion and a reduction in parking availability, the council’s report clarified that the dental practice will operate as a car-free facility.
As part of the renovations, an extension will be added to the rear of the building, utilizing the existing courtyard space.
Changes to the front of the building will involve replacing the current tile cladding with brickwork and removing the existing vertical sash windows.
The plans also include the installation of cycle racks at the back of the building for both staff and patients.
A council report noted that the proposed conversion aligns with the surrounding area’s character and will help preserve the local architectural aesthetic.
