Marquette University Opens Delta Dental Urgent and Special Care Clinic

Marquette University has unveiled the newly renovated Delta Dental Urgent and Special Care Clinic, which officials say will enhance patient care while offering valuable learning opportunities for dental students. The clinic will serve as a hub for urgent dental care, where dental students can provide treatment under the supervision of licensed dentists.

“This project has been incredibly rewarding, from its initial concept to its completion,” said Marquette University President Kimo Ah Yun. “Our students now have access to cutting-edge facilities equipped with advanced technology that will help them transition smoothly into their professional careers. These upgrades also enable us to continue our commitment to delivering high-quality oral care, especially to underserved communities.”

The revamped clinic focuses on providing care for underserved populations, including patients with special needs. The special care wing is designed to accommodate patients with mobility challenges, featuring a wheelchair lift and a bariatric chair. Additionally, the clinic houses a private sensory-adapted room, a radiology room, and six new dental chairs.

The renovation was made possible through a $7.5 million fundraising campaign. Marquette also secured a $1.02 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, aimed at expanding the clinic’s capacity and upgrading its equipment to better meet the needs of patients with special requirements.

As the only dental school in Wisconsin, Marquette’s School of Dentistry will continue to provide vital oral health services to residents across 66 of the state’s 72 counties. Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the school has facilitated nearly 2 million patient visits. The newly renovated clinic is designed to help dental students learn in an evolving healthcare environment.

“We are deeply grateful to Delta Dental of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Dental Association, our government leaders, and all the donors who supported this project,” said Elsbeth Kalenderian, Dean of the School of Dentistry. “Their commitment ensures that we can continue to serve Wisconsin residents, particularly those in underserved and special needs communities, with excellence and integrity.”
