LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) will host a special dental event offering free treatments for children on Friday, April 25. The event will take place at the college’s Lincoln campus from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Children between the ages of 6 and 17 are eligible to receive free dental sealants and fluoride treatments. These services are part of CCRI’s annual Sealant and Fluoride Community Day, which focuses on providing preventive dental care to local families.
The treatments will be performed by CCRI dental hygiene students, working under the close supervision of licensed dental professionals.
Sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to help prevent cavities. Fluoride treatments help to strengthen tooth enamel and reduce the risk of decay.
Janice Schmitz, Chair of CCRI’s Dental Health programs, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “Our dental hygiene students are excited to apply their skills while making a real impact in the community. This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to receive free preventive care and for our students to gain practical experience in patient care.”
The college encourages families to take advantage of the free services and support both community health and student learning.
