The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service is rolling out its fleet of mobile dental vans for the new year, offering free dental care to children across the region.
Dr. Herholdt “Harry” Robertson, the Oral Health Director, explained that the mobile dental vans provide a convenient way for children to access quality dental care closer to home.
“We have nine mobile dental vans that serve the Cairns and Hinterland area, reaching as far south as Tully, north to Daintree, and west to Croydon,” Dr. Robertson said.
The vans offer free dental services to eligible children up to the age of 17, with experienced dental therapists, oral health therapists, and dental assistants available on-site.
“We have many available appointments, and our vans provide a stress-free environment where our skilled clinicians specialize in treating young patients,” Dr. Robertson added. “Children just need a Medicare card and proof of Queensland residency to qualify for the service.”
Dr. Robertson emphasized the importance of early dental care. “Helping children maintain good oral health from a young age can reduce the risk of serious diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s later in life.”
